Let There Be Light

instrumentation: SATB voices divisi a cappella
year composed: 2023 | 4 minutes
I composed "Let There Be Light" as a fun summer project after my freshman year of college. I spent some time reading different Biblical texts that summer and was inspired by the first chapter of Genesis (I promise I made it past just the first chapter!), specifically the line that repeats throughout –– "and God saw that it was good." It's a reminder to me that, yeah, the world is good. There is a lot of beauty in the world, in things big and small. The opening section of "Let There Be Light" represents how God made the universe one thing at a time. The stacatto 'ah' accompaniment later on captures the energy of something living, in this case, the world.
