"(I)dentity" is a dance piece I collaborated on with Frances Rose Koper, whom I had previously played accordion for in one of her dance projects. Drawn to her wildly imaginative and elegant choreographic style, I knew I had to collaborate with her.
I wrote "(I)dentity" so that I could remember my relationship with my disability at this specific point in time. This piece is a celebration of accepting my disability as part of my identity and no longer something to resist. Reaching that understanding was challenging, but I have been rewarded by being able to dance with my disability. Interactions between both dancers and the use of a bicycle (which I had to re-learn how to ride) as a percussion instrument were tools to help tell this chapter of my journey with my disability.
