I composed “A Place to Bloom” to reconcile with a specific trauma I experienced years ago. This
trauma, as most traumas do, remains. Until recently, I was unaware of this. My own development was
stunted. As a result, I turned to rather self-destructive behavior.
This composition is not meant to condemn my behavior, nor the behaviors of the individuals I have
written about. Rather, this piece is an attempt at understanding my relation to both the impressionability
of trauma and the unabating inner-abuses of the gay community.
It is through composing this piece that I hope to heal and that I can inspire other individuals not to be
ashamed of their trauma and how it persists.
